The Bharatiya Vima Karmachari Sena was founded on 23rd January, 1996, the auspicious day of Birthday of Shivsena Supremo BALASAHEB THACKERAY. The roots of BVKS have gone back to 40 years of working for the employees through the platform of the Sthaniya Lokadhikar Samittee (SLS), a social wing of Shivsena whose main demand was recruitment of 80% local candidates in various PSUs/Govt. organizations like Banks, Insurance companies, Railways, Income Tax, Air India, Oil companies etc. This is the only social organization in Maharashtra, where people in employment fight for the unemployed youth. New India Sthaniya Lokadhikar Samittee works in our organisation for more than 40 yrs. Along with demand for 80% local recruitment , it fights against any injustice done to local employees in various aspects like promotions, transfers, Staff quarters allotment etc. The main achievement of SLS was absorption of 690 marketing trainees in 4 General Insurance P.S.U.'s in the year 1993. When approached by these trainees to help them, the SLS took up the fight with the then GIC and Finance Ministry in Delhi and came out victorious. Thus, these 690 trainees were absorbed in GIC's 4 subsidiaries viz. The New India Assurance Co. ltd., Oriental Insurance Co. ltd., The United India Insurance Co Ltd, National Insurance Co Ltd as development officers in the year 1994. Then the pressure started building up from these trainees and many employees from different parts of the country to form the Trade Union which can take up employee/ Industry related issues very seriously and forcefully. Hence, by the order of Shivsena Supremo BALASAHEB THACKERAY, BVKS was founded in GIC and its 4 subsidiaries on 23-01-1996, under the presidentship of Shivsena leader Shri. Sudhirbhau Joshi. Its founder working president was Late Ramakrishna Sathaye and General Secretary Shri. Anil Desai, working president Late Shri Manohar Gayakhe. The issue of one time promotion of employees was first taken up by the BVKS successfully. The issue of withdrawal of LTS was single handedly taken up by BVKS and against all the gloomy feelings in the minds of leaders of other unions / associations BVKS with its sincere and concerted efforts could successfully restored the LTS.

Our Strength, we have the most eminent and powerful Leaders at all India level.

Bharatiya Vima Karmachari Sena, is the youngest union spanning across India. We are proud of our remarkable progress in such a short span of time.

Since its inception BVKS has given top priority to growth and profitability of National Insurance Company and has supported all measures whole heartedly to ensure fulfillment of organisational growth. Organisational goals should always precede personal goals as employees can share profits only after they contribute towards achievement of goals. Our systematic approach based on proper analysis of data, regular follow up of crucial issues with the management and very high success rate has resulted in increased membership across the country. Our vision and timely inputs from our members and well wishers makes us a breed apart!

Our union has grown from a single unit in Mumbai to new units in the states of Goa, MP, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, West Bengal etc. We have also established units at Coimbatore, Hubli, Chennai, Vizag, Hyderabad, Bhubaneshwar, Kolkata Kochi, Chandigarh, Delhi and other parts of the country.

BVKS is the only 'all-cadre' union in the Insurance Industry. We have provided a common platform to all employees to voice their concerns as we do not believe in division in employees. With the blessing of parent organisation Shiv Sena, we aggressively tackle any injustice and discrimination by management. We are fully aware of the present financial health of our Company. We have been giving suggestions and co-operation to the management for growth and profitability of the Company. We have also given our comments on critical issues on realignment of offices, unproductive TMP policy, unnecessary harassment by vigilance or audit department, revival of women cells, etc.

We not only fight for promotions and transfers but also for all aspects related to the working environment and dignity of employees.

We have achieved many milestones through our efforts and systematic approach. 

Our major accomplishments include:

• Achievement of one more pension option

• Historic increase (15%) in salaries during the last wage revision through combined efforts and backing of our Central Committee

• Restoration of LTS facility

• One time promotion for all employees

Some of the issues on our agenda are:

• Timely settlement of Charter of Demand with at least 40% increase in salary

• Provision of housing loan with reduced rate of interest and increase in quantum of loan for metro cities

• At least one insurance policy should be free for employee and his family

• Four wheeler loan to class III employees

• Cash reimbursement of LTS

• Automatic transfer to home town after two years for employees transferred.

• Better working environment and technical support to Marketing Officers.

• Strong opposition to management decision to increase TMP (for Class III) beyond 150 kms

• Opening of additional holiday homes and other NMBS benefits

We do not believe in strikes and 'pen-down' programmes. We make our voices heard and extract fair deals in record time. Management has to think twice before refusing appointment to office bearers.
